We recently mentioned it on PPRU: Disney, through its Disney Music entity, announced the release of a pop punk cover album featuring alternative rock and pop punk artists reimagining some of its most iconic musical hits. Yesterday, the project “A Whole New Sound” revealed its release date which will be September 6th.
This project has surprised both Disney and pop punk fans alike. However, I believe it will be a great way to promote both. The resurgence of pop punk and, more broadly, alternative music justifies this choice of musical style. Additionally, fans of these musical genres grew up with Disney movies—I myself was a huge fan of The Lion King. I think this is an excellent way to bring together both worlds and promote them simultaneously. It’s also a great way to showcase the bands that participated in this project.
Disney-Inspired Visual Identity in the Music Videos
Last July, Simple Plan released the first track from their cover of “Can You Feel The Love Tonight,” the iconic song from The Lion King originally performed by Elton John, during the announcement of this musical project. Since then, the music video has also been released.
At the end of July, the second track, “i2i” from the movie A Goofy Movie, covered by the band Magnolia Park, was released. It features the same visual elements as Simple Plan’s music video and, like theirs, it highlights the band performing their rendition of the song.
Yesterday, the official release date announcement for the “A Whole New Sound” project—set for September 6th—was accompanied by a new music video. This time, it’s New Found Glory with a surprising cover of “Part of Your World,” the iconic song from The Little Mermaid (“Partir là-bas” in French). Like the first two videos, the visual and graphic style, as well as the performance-focused video format, are consistent with the previous releases.

Along with the release date, the complete setlist of tracks to be covered was also announced. The names of the bands have been published as well. Here it is, along with the corresponding films for each track:
