2023 was an epic year for the pop punk and punk rock scene, dropping some seriously killer EPs and albums. Now, 2024 is here, and it’s shaping up to be another awesome year for music. Let’s dive into the releases I’m most hyped about with this top 5 list of pop punk and punk rock albums for 2024. Just a heads up, this list is totally my own vibe and not at all objective.
5. Mod Sun
The former rapper who took a clear pop punk turn with his 2021 album “Internet Killed the Rockstar” totally nailed it, and the success was huge. His follow-up, “God Save the Teens,” rocked that same vibe. He recently inked a deal with Shelter Music Group for his new album. Plus, he dropped the news on social media that he’s going to release his “best album yet” in 2024. We’re all for it and can’t wait, especially since we were big fans of his last two albums. We’ll keep you posted on how this project progresses.
Release Date: Sometime in 2024

4. Alkaline Trio
Set to drop in January 2024, the band announced this new album after a 6-year silence. Titled “Blood, Hair, and Eyeballs,” it’ll be interesting to see how the public reacts to their first release since Matt Skiba’s return after his stint with Blink 182. That gig seriously amped up Alkaline Trio’s fanbase. Will the band meet the expectations of this broader audience? The three previews available so far suggest we’re in for some quality final output that stays true to the band’s melodic punk rock roots. Personally, I’m totally vibing with “Version of you“.

3. Neck Deep
The iconic Welsh band that’s totally rocked the global pop punk scene announced a self-titled album. This album’s a big deal for them ’cause it’s their first without original drummer Dani Washington, who left the band in May 2022. Matt Powles, the band’s longtime drum tech, is stepping up to fill those shoes. The first single, “Heartbreak of the Century,” dropped on February 15, 2023, followed by “Take Me with You” on August 9, 2023. The third single, “It Won’t Be Like This Forever,” hit the scene on September 27, 2023, and the fourth, “We Need More Bricks,” on November 16, 2023. These tracks showcase the band’s evolution while staying true to their pop-punk roots. No doubt, one of their tracks will end up on the Pop Punk Rock Revival Universe playlist.
Release Date: January 19, 2024
2. Green Day
Green Day, the legendary band, is dropping their 14th album early this year. The first three tracks set the vibe for what’s to come, and let me tell you, we’re not disappointed. Politics, addiction, societal issues… all the big themes Green Day’s always tackled are there. “The American Dream Is Killing Me” directly follows in the footsteps of “American Idiot,” which is hitting its 20th anniversary this year. “Dilemma” offers a deep dive into frontman Billie Joe Armstrong’s struggles with alcoholism, with a pretty telling music video to boot. Sound-wise, these sneak peeks suggest the upcoming album will continue in the punkier vein of “Father Of All,” feeling like a sequel to “Dookie” and “American Idiot.” This new album is shaping up to be a top-quality production.

1. Sum 41
Billed as their final album before they call it quits, this is the one I’m most eagerly waiting for this year. Announced as a double album, “Heaven :x: Hell” aims to be an ambitious two-part work, with “Heaven” and… “Hell.” The first part will feature 10 tracks with the pop punk vibes we know and love from the band. The second will dive into 10 heavy metal tracks. This project totally speaks to me since I’m a pop punk fan at heart, but metal also resonates with me big time. Their first single “Rise Up” perfectly merges these genres, giving us a taste that just makes us want to go wild.
Deryck Whibley, the band’s lead singer, has voiced his confidence in this album as the perfect record to end Sum 41’s journey. It’s meant to be the ultimate farewell gift from the band to their loyal fans, after a stellar 27-year career that saw over 15 million records sold worldwide, Billboard chart-toppers, a Grammy nomination, two Juno Awards, and countless other accolades.
