Neck Deep by Neck Deep

Big year for Neck Deep in 2024! After celebrating the 10th anniversary of their first album (“Wishful Thinking,” Neck Deep’s debut album, hits 10 years), the band dropped a self-titled album last week, marking their 10 years in the biz. Their 5th album, and let me just say: it’s a real game-changer for them. Highly anticipated, I took some time to listen to it multiple times, to really dive deep, and here’s my review, finally.

This album is a true return to the band’s pop punk roots while showing off their maturity. It’s defined by catchy melodies, raw energy, and a sharp sense of composition. The deeply personal lyrics tackle love, loss, and mental health with striking authenticity. Frontman Ben Barlow stands out with a vocal performance that’s more powerful and nuanced than ever. The keys to the band’s success (authenticity, energy, connection…) are all there and they’re hitting just right.

The return to pop punk fundamentals is executed flawlessly, though some tracks might feel a bit familiar in format. However, the album shines in its ability to balance nostalgia and innovation. In a post-Covid music scene, the album brings a much-needed freshness, standing out with its sincere and unpretentious approach. Neck Deep solidifies its spot as a major player in the recent pop punk scene.

“Neck Deep” is both comforting and thrilling, a must-listen for long-time fans and an excellent starting point for new ones. It’s a celebration of resilience and evolution, showcasing the band’s ability to stay relevant and resonate 10 years on. So, you get the gist, go give it a listen!!!
