On January 1st, it’s the perfect time to look back on the standout releases with this Top 10 Pop Punk and Punk Rock Albums of 2024. Spoiler alert: 2024 was a stellar year for the alternative rock scene. From iconic pop punk and punk rock names to exciting newcomers, it was undoubtedly a year to remember for fans of these genres.

This list is entirely subjective, curated by PPRU, but we’d love to hear your own Top 10 on social media! 10. Extremely Fragile Human Being – Good Hangs

Some might say releasing a 2024 top albums list on January 1, 2025, is late—but waiting was worth it for this gem released on December 27. If you haven’t heard of Good Hangs, you’re welcome! Dubbed “the next big thing” by Reddit users, this band delivers an incredible sophomore album. Although its late release keeps it lower on the list, it fully earns its spot.

Favorite track: If I Ate Mold, Do You Think I’d Notice? – A true banger among many on this album.

9. Supercharged – The Offspring

Legends of ’90s punk rock and early pop punk pioneers, The Offspring, dropped their latest album on October 11. Supercharged blends the raw energy of their early days with polished production, tackling themes from societal challenges to lighter, festive anthems. While it hasn’t won over all long-time fans, it’s still a solid album that reaffirms their status as punk rock icons.

Favorite track: Light It Up – A hit that recaptures the energy of their early albums.

Supercharged - The Offspring

8. One Cut Away From Love – Knives FL

Formed in 2022, this Florida punk band delivered a debut album that’s as unique as it is promising. Known for “soul-shredding lyrics” and a nostalgic Warped Tour vibe, they’ve struck a chord with fans. Originally planned as a one-off project, their chemistry pushed them to keep going. This album is a must-listen!

Favorite track: Chemicals – A hauntingly beautiful emo-influenced song.

One Cut Away From Love - Knives FL

7. Medz – The Used

Emo legends The Used returned on June 21, the first day of summer, with their tenth studio album, Medz. Released under Big Noise, the album captures the emotional storytelling and vocal power of Bert McCracken that fans adore. While it doesn’t take many risks, it successfully taps into the essence of what makes their music resonate.

Favorite track: Medz – The title track is a quintessential emo banger.

6. The End? – Your Broken Hero

This year saw the release of The End?, an emo-pop punk masterpiece from Your Broken Hero, the brainchild of Matt Cutshall. Designed to prove that emo is “never just a phase,” this album blends nostalgic 2000s vibes with modern flair. With millions of streams on tracks like Don’t Listen to My Voicemail featuring Simple Plan, the project has struck a chord with fans new and old.

Favorite track: Don’t Listen to My Voicemail (feat. Simple Plan) – Picking a favorite wasn’t easy, but this one stands out for its emotional weight.

The End? - Your Broken Hero

5. Savior – Green Day

The iconic Green Day made a strong comeback in January with their fourteenth studio album, Savior. This record returns to the raw punk roots that first brought them fame. Though the album plays it safe, it remains a testament to the band’s longevity and talent, cementing their place in the punk rock pantheon. The only downside to the album, in our opinion, is the band’s lack of audacity on this production. But make no mistake, this is still an excellent album. Favorite track: Dilemma – Inspired by Billie Joe Armstrong’s struggles with addiction, it’s a poignant, heartfelt piece.

Savior - Green Day

4. Attempted Lover – Sueco

California native Sueco delivered a stunning second album this year. Fusing pop punk, rap, and hip-hop, Attempted Lover is both innovative and deeply personal. Having made his name on TikTok, Sueco continues to captivate fans with his unique sound and social media savvy. This album shows his growth as an artist and offers a glimpse into a promising future.

Favorite track: Somebody Else – A powerful anthem showcasing his vocal and lyrical prowess.

Attempted Lover - Sueco

3. Hot Mess – 408

Orlando’s 408 claims the bronze medal with Hot Mess. Known for their mix of early 2000s pop punk, modern pop, hip-hop, and EDM, the band delivered an album that satisfied long-time fans and gained new ones. With endorsements from big names like Mark Hoppus and Kellin Quinn, 408 is a band to watch. Hot Mess is an album that delighted their early fans while opening the band up to the world stage. 2. Blood, Hair, and Eyeballs – Alkaline Trio

Another band from the 2000s delivers an excellent album this year. The return of Matt Skiba to the band, following his stint with Blink 182, has enabled the group to treat us to a particularly high-quality opus. The band’s dark, melodic punk rock sounds are back in evidence on this, their tenth album. This album is a quest for identity, self-exploration and acceptance of the past in order to move forward, plunging resolutely into anger and determination, true to the tradition of punk songs. Blood, Hair, and Eyeballs - Alkaline Trio

1. Heaven:X:Hell – Sum 41

Finally, on the top step of the podium of this top 10 pop punk and punk rock albums of 2024, we find the iconic Canadian pop punk band. Sum 41 announced their split last year after a career spanning almost 30 years. For the occasion, they treated us to an excellent opus with this double album released last March. The first part, Heaven, plunges us into the pop punk universe of the band’s early career. The second, Hell, is more oriented towards heavy metal sounds, emblematic of the band’s more recent output.

In short, Sum 41’s double album Heaven :x: Hell is a masterly finale. It allows the band to leave the stage with their heads held high. And despite their distinct identities, Heaven and Hell are truly Sum 41. To find out more about this album, read our review here.

Favorite tracks (double album oblige, we chose two): Dopamine (Heaven) and Rise Up (Hell) – Two standout tracks embodying both sides of the band’s legacy.

Bonus: From Zero – Linkin Park

Though not strictly pop punk or punk rock, From Zero deserves a mention. With new vocalist Emily Armstrong, Linkin Park returned to their nu-metal roots in a bold and emotional reinvention of their sound.
